Things NOT to do before buying a home:
- Don’t buy any major purchases! You want to keep your debt ratio low. Major purchases include: cars, furniture, appliances, electronics, jewelry, vacations, etc.
- Don’t move money around! When a lender reviews your loan package, one of the things they’re concerned about is the source of funds for your down payment. A loan officer will look at your liquid assets, such as your checking and savings accounts, money market funds, stock market statements, 401K and retirement accounts to ensure quality control and potential fraud.
- Don’t change banks. On the same token as the above mentioned, it’s best to show a consistent banking history. Stay put until the close of escrow.
